Comments in WordPress

WordPress Comments allow a user to interact with the blogger or website team. It helps in many ways, like you’ll get to know what your viewers want from you. 

Comments are a unique feature that allows WordPress users to interact with different bloggers of the same project or with the team. The primary intention of using Comments is to get to know what your readers or viewers are looking for, and they can also provide feedback through this feature of WordPress. Through this, you can also get to know what other things you can do for your readers. There is also an option for activating and deactivating the comment box. 


How to Enable or Disable Comments in WordPress?

Step 1: − Click on Pages and then on  All Pages in WordPress.


Step 2:  − The list of pages created in WordPress will get displayed. Select any of the pages you want to add comments to. Here, we are going to add comment in About Us page. Click on About Us.


Step 3: To add a comment on this page, click on Screen options present at the top right hand corner.


Step 4: − The dropdown list of Screen Option gets displayed. Check the Discussion and Comments box.


Step 5: − You can now view the Discussion and Comments box at the bottom of your page

In the Discussion section, there are two options present −

  • Allow Comments − Allows visitors to comment on your blog posts and pages.
  • Allow trackbacks and pingbacks on this page − Allows visitors to give pings and trackbacks.

In the Comment section, you can add comments by clicking on Add Comment button.


Step (6) − After that click on Update button after adding the comment box.


Editing Comments in WordPress

Editing comments is possible only from the administrator’s end. Here is a list of steps that you have to follow to edit a comment in WordPress:

  1. From the dashboard of WordPress, Go to the Comments menu.
  2. There you will see a list of comments from all the various pages of your site.
  3. Select any comment you wish to edit. There you will see the Edit option/link.
  4. Once you click that, the Edit comment page will show up on your screen.
  5. You can edit the comment from here and click on Update Button.

From here, you can change or modify the name, e-mail address, URL, or comment from the comment box.


Moderate Comments

Comments by the visitors on a post are not published directly unless it is approved by the admin. This is known as Moderation. You can change comment moderation settings. Go to Settings and then on Discussions

When you’ll scroll down the page little bit, you’ll see following option. mark tick (√) on this Point) Comment must be manually approved.


How to Receive Notification for Comment

You can receive a notification whenever someone leaves a comment on your site or waiting to be approved.You will not receive a notification for a comment marked as spam.

To receive notifications, go to Settings and then on Discussions option. Mark Tick (√) on this Point the boxes under Email me Whenever to enable notifications.
